Find a comfortable position—seated or standing—where your body can be still and at ease.
Gently close your eyes if you feel comfortable.
Take a slow breath in through your nose…
and release it gently through your mouth.

As your breathing settles, allow the noise of the day to soften.
You are not striving.
You are not proving anything.
You are simply here—held in the presence of God.

The psalm we pray today is Psalm 2—a psalm that speaks honestly about the chaos of the world, the resistance of human hearts, and the unshakable reign of God.

Listen to these words from Psalm 2:

“Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?”

As you breathe slowly, bring to mind the unrest of our world.
Conflicts between nations…
division within communities…
tensions in families…
even the unrest within your own heart.

Without judgment, simply notice what arises.
What feels unsettled?
What feels resistant to God’s way?

The psalm names the truth we often feel but rarely admit:
we want control.
We want autonomy.
We want to decide what is best.

“Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”

Sit quietly with this question:
Where do I resist God’s rule in my life?

Allow silence for reflection…
(breathe slowly for several moments)

Now hear the next words of the psalm:

“The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.”

This is not a mocking laughter—it is the laughter of peace.
God is not threatened.
God is not overwhelmed.
God is not anxious.

As you breathe in, receive this truth:
God is steady.
God is present.
God reigns.

Imagine placing your worries, fears, and frustrations into God’s hands.
You do not have to carry what was never meant for you alone.

Rest in this assurance for a few quiet breaths…

The psalm continues:

“I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”

For Christians, we hear these words through the life of Jesus Christ—
the One who reigns not by force, but by love;
not by domination, but by self-giving.

Hear these words:

“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”

As you breathe, remember:
in Christ, you too are a beloved child.
Not because of your performance.
Not because of your perfection.
But because of God’s grace.

Allow this identity to settle deep within you.
You are known.
You are loved.
You belong.

Sit with that truth in silence…

The psalm gently turns toward invitation:

“Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.”

This is not a threat—it is an invitation to humility.
An invitation to trust.
An invitation to surrender control.

Ask yourself quietly:
Where is God inviting me to trust more deeply?
Where am I being called to lay down my need to rule?

“Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.”

Let your trembling be awe.
Let your fear be reverence.
Let your surrender be worship.

Take a few slow breaths as you release your will into God’s care…

The psalm closes with a promise:

“Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

Refuge is not escape.
Refuge is trust.
Refuge is resting in the One who reigns with mercy and justice.

As you breathe in, silently pray:
God, you are my refuge.

As you breathe out, release whatever burdens you carry.

Remain here for a few moments, resting in God’s reign…
(rest in silence)

Closing Prayer

Holy God,
In a world that rages,
teach us to trust your reign.
In moments of resistance,
draw us back to your love.
May we find our refuge not in power or control,
but in Jesus Christ,
our King of peace.
Amen.
